The Floral Files: Ep. 1
Miracle-Gro presents “The Floral Files.”
Lilian: Hello, and welcome to the Floral Files, where we take a look at the most chilling cases of plant homicide. I’m your host, Lilian
Westley: And I’m your host, Westley. This week, we’re investigating the case of Violet Stem.
Lilian: Violet was an African Violet who grew from a simple seed into a full flower in Boston, Massachusetts. Her caretaker, Jimmie Stem, was a coffee shop owner who was raising 4 different plants at the time.
Westley: African Violets have an incredible lifespan of up to 50 years. Tragically, Violet would only live to 8.
Lilian: On the night of October 12 2025, police were called to Jimmie’s apartment complex. They were led to the trash bin behind the complex, where they beheld the horrific sight.
Westley: Violet’s remains were found in the dumpster behind the building. The crime scene was left with yellow, crinkled leaves, fallen flower buds, and a broken flower pot where her body lay. Eyewitnesses claimed they had seen a man matching Jimmie’s description dumping a suspiciously plant-shaped package into the bin.
Lilian: Jimmie, who retreated back to his apartment, was arrested on the scene. His trial was held 3 months later. Hundreds of plant-rights activists gathered outside the courthouse, calling for him to receive the maximum sentence.
Westley: Witnesses testified in front of the court, including one of Jimmie’s other plants, Petunia. She claimed that Violet’s downfall had been apparent for many days leading up to her wilting.
Lilian: Jimmie’s lawyer defended him by claiming that Jimmie had done everything he could to save Violet.
Westley: The judge ultimately ruled that Violet’s death was preventable, as Jimmie could have done more to keep all his plants healthy.
Lilian: Jimmie is currently serving a 25-year sentence, with a chance of parole in 2036.
Lilian: All of this could’ve been avoided with the help of Miracle-Gro, the sponsor for today’s episode.
Westley: Miracle-Gro assists new plant parents by giving their plants the extra nutrients they need to live long, leafy lives. The use is simple. Mix the plant food with water, and apply it to the soil every 7–14 days. And just like that, you can save both your plant’s life and yourself from being a bad plant parent.

Westley: Now, back to the episode.
Westley: Wow, such a harrowing case. It’s sad to think that so many people adopt plants without knowing how to properly care for them.
Lilian: Oh, there have to be hundreds of cases per year just like this!
Westley: And most of them could be prevented with some Miracle-Gro.
Lilian: For those out there listening, make sure to look out for your plant and not miss out on any signs of health risks.
Westley: That’ll be it for us this week! Stay tuned for another thrilling episode coming soon.
Westley/Lilian: Bye!
